The year 2024 was marked by significant progress. We celebrated the Year 2 winners of the Défi énergie en immobilier 2.0, who stood out for their outstanding performance throughout 2023. These achievements reflect our community’s growing dedication to sustainable and responsible practices.
Reminder of Your Commitment to Upcoming Provincial Regulations
Since the adoption of the Building Energy Performance Act by the MELCCFP in 2024, ambitious measures will be implemented through forthcoming regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving energy efficiency in Quebec’s commercial buildings. This law, aligned with the Quebec Green Economy Plan, introduces clear obligations for building owners with properties over 2,000 m² or 25 housing units.
The main requirements include:
- Energy Data Reporting: Owners must submit detailed information through Energy Star Portfolio Manager, a digital tool that facilitates energy performance tracking and assessment.
- Public Environmental Rating: A performance score will be assigned to buildings and made public to raise awareness of environmental impact and encourage sustainable practices.
- Progressive Performance Standards: These standards aim to reduce GHG emissions and continuously improve energy efficiency.
By participating in the Défi énergie en immobilier, you are already aligned with these new requirements. Your commitment gives you a competitive edge in meeting regulatory challenges while actively contributing to Quebec’s ambitious climate goals. Key Dates for Year 3
To ensure the continued success of our initiative, please keep the following deadlines in mind:
- May 31 – Deadline for submitting energy data through Energy Star Portfolio Manager. This step is crucial to confirm your participation in Year 3, evaluate your progress, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Fall 2025 – Défi énergie RendezVous, an opportunity to share experiences, learn best practices, and celebrate our collective successes. The exact date and details will be shared later this year
