Five levels of recognitionto optimize participation

Several performance measures and award categories are defined as part of the Challenge. They were designed to foster cooperation, excellence and perseverance of the participants.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT AWARD

In this category the percentage reduction of a building’s energy intensity will be compared in order to identify the buildings that reduced energy consumption by the greatest amount last year, as compared to the previous year. Buildings will be grouped and compared with other buildings with a similar vocation, surface area and energy consumption, and will compete with each other. The winners are those with the greatest reduction of energy consumption in their category.

– Be registered as a participant in the Building Energy Challenge. – Sharing your building’s ESPM account with the BEC – Duly entering energy data for 2022 before May 31, 2023. – Responding to the questionnaire for validating the data (to be sent after May 31) within the prescribed time frame.

The winners will be those who have reduced their energy consumption the most in their category. The categories group together buildings of similar energy intensity and size in order to be as comparable as possible.

The Awards will be attributed based on the ESPM data and the answers to the validation questionnaire, which will be sent to all participants after May 31.

AWARD FOR REACHING GHG TARGET

Reducing greenhouse emissions is the underlying premise for the competition. By 2025 all participants will have a target of reducing GHGs in their buildings by at least 10% below the level recorded when they registered for the BEC. For this competition, the greenhouse emissions for buildings in 2025 will be compared with the GHG level recorded in 2022. The winners will be determined based on the percentage rate of GHG reduction achieved.

– Be registered in the Building Energy Challenge. – Sharing your building’s ESPM account with the BEC – Entering energy consumption data for 2022 before May 31, 2023. – Responding to the questionnaire for validating data (to be sent after May 31, 2023) within the prescribed time frame.

Winners will be determined based on the percentage of GHG reduction achieved between 2022 and 2025. The BEC target is a reduction of at least 10%.

The Awards will be attributed based on the data in ESPM. Awards for this category will only be given in Year 4 of the 2.0 Challenge, during the final awards celebration night in 2026.

MOBILIZATION AWARD – SUPPLIERS

Consulting firms and energy professionals can also take part in the Building Energy Challenge!

The BEC honours efforts made by these professionals to improve the energy performance of buildings. They are crucial contributors to the success of energy transition. They are present at every stage in the life of a building, providing support to managers and their ongoing energy improvement projects.

We wish to encourage key players in the milieu to highlight their expertise and their efforts to support energy transition in commercial buildings across Quebec.
